**this page will continue to be updated

After spending an insightful 3/4 months in Mexico it’s a pleasure to return to the Worldwide FM HQ otherwise known as the Pyramid in the Sky.

This month we’ll be reverting back to the usual format. Two hours of new music and current re-issues followed by chat and mix from various international luminaires from the experimental music spectrum.

13 MARCH 2020

Trepandado, Selvagem from Sao Paulo, Brazil joined me in the studio. It turned out to be a show with an unrecognisable backdrop. As the potentiual consequences of the COVID 19 outbreak start to dawn on us this would be the last Global Roots Radio show before the lockdown and the UK along with the rest of Europe was told to stay at home.
Only a few days later and the idea of hanging out in the studio with people and talking about a weekend full of gigs and festivals seem like a distant memory.
Big respects to Augusto Olivani (Trepanado) for rolling through. I’m a big fan of his work on the Selvagem compilations, and as we discovered in the show they put on fantastic parties in Sao Paulo and really work hard to discover and share previously unappreciated Brazilian music. It was also exciting to hear that they’re now working on new music, some of which he previewed in his mix.

I met Moullinex on a chance occasion in Mexico. I’ve been familiar with his work for some time and promptly invited him on the show. Instead of speaking face to face in the studio I connected with Luis via whatsapp while he “stayed at home” in Lisbon and sent over a mix of music from his peers.

The whole show was conducted in isolation and the first two hours was the usual selection of new and recently re-issued music.

We’ve all been advised go self isolate, stay at home and gatherings of more than 2 people have been banned.

It’s a new world with new rules. We constructed The Isolation Station and will be broadcasting Global Roots Radio live from there for as long as we can.

This weeks real life online guest is Glenn Astro. We spoke via WhatsApp about the immediate effects of the virus pandemic and what it might mean. I also caught up with Sam who runs Cakeshop in Seoul, South Korea. He gave us a casual insight into how the pandemic has effected him as club owner (early nights and no dancing laws).
